PETER R. MEYERRecorded Theater Play Week directed by Peter R. Meyer12.02-18.02.1979
During the week of February 12–18, 1979, Galerie S:t Petri in Lund is organizing a radio play week featuring works by Guillaume Apollinaire, Samuel Beckett, Peter R. Meyer, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Vilgot Sjöman, and Alexander Weiss.
Peter R. Meyer, from Stockholm, has directed all eight radio plays and believes that the time has come to present radio drama as an independent dramatic form.
According to Peter Meyer, the broadcast media are today one of the main factors shaping social development. Its pedagogical potential and its function as a means of communication are significant. Through this medium, he hopes to be able to convey his ideas on art and culture in a way that helps to broaden and deepen our view of reality, which is often dominated by a materialistic worldview.
For Meyer, it is important to restore a spiritual perspective to existence. The value of art, he argues, is determined by its spiritual content. Technological civilization has led to human isolation. Only when the outer limits of science merge with the ideas of mysticism and religion will a new era of understanding begin, says Peter Meyer.
Peter R. Meyer is currently preparing his first feature film. For several years, he has worked as a freelance director and producer, including for Swedish Radio in Stockholm. He has also traveled widely as a radio producer in Japan, Thailand, Nepal, Poland, the West Indies, and several other countries.
In connection with the broadcast of Guillaume Apollinaire’s “Tiresias’ Breasts”, Margareth Wijk, who is writing her doctoral dissertation on Apollinaire, will present his “L’Esprit Nouveau” on Tuesday, February 13, at 6 p.m.
Each day at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., two different radio plays will be performed. On Saturday and Sunday, an additional play will be presented at 2 p.m.
