KRZYSZTOF WODICZKO DRAWINGS OF LINES 27 02 - 03 03 1976
KRZYSZTOF WODICZKO from Warsaw shows Lines at Galerie S:t Petri, Lund, from 27 February – 3 March 1976.
For several years now, Wodiczko has been working with visual illusions that can take many different forms. The exhibition in Lund is called “Drawings of Lines”, and the artist describes it as follows:
“The drawings are placed in the room on the walls and in the corners.
The drawings in the corners are the first phase.
The drawings — on the walls — of simple lines, horizontal, slanted, and vertical, are the most important.
The drawings are not illusions of any object whatsoever, nor do they describe any forms.
The drawings are not illusions of objects but become concrete visual objects themselves — that is, lines.
The drawings, the lines, are concrete regardless of how they have been made, seen, associated, or examined.”
Drawings of Lines is presented for the first time outside Poland.
The theme has been preceded by other drawings, where the first was called “Drawing of a Chair”, a drawing of an illusion of an object.
The second, “Drawing of a Chair” and “Drawing of a Line”, showed the illusion of both an object and an illusory drawing of a line.
The third, “A Ladder” and “Drawing of a Chair”, described the illusion of an illusory object as well as a drawing of an illusion of a drawing of an illusion of an object.
All the works were previously exhibited at Galerie Akumulatory 2 in Poznań and Galerie Foksal in Warsaw.
Krzysztof Wodiczko is a lecturer at the University of Warsaw.
He works with art and technical problems.
He has also visited various universities in the USA as a guest lecturer in art.
In a few days, he will travel to Canada for the same purpose.
This is the first time Wodiczko is presenting his works in Sweden.
In Poland and the USA, however, he has often shown them before.
The exhibition at Galerie S:t Petri is open weekdays 3 p.m. – 8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
