MICHAEL CRANEFILL IN THIS SPACE17 - 23.01.1976
MICHAEL CRANE, from Chicago, is exhibiting at Galerie S:t Petri, Lund, from 17–23 January 1976. This is the first time his work is being shown in Sweden.
The exhibition consists of three parts that connect the viewer with photographs in such a way that, when experienced together, they create a geometric “sculpture.” Naturally, the “sculptures” exist only when the viewer observes the photographs in the manner proposed by Michael Crane. The “sculptures,” therefore, exist only on an intellectual level — and only for as long as each viewer allows them to exist.
The exhibition also presents a book, “Fill in this space”, which contains a collection of 26 conceptual works by Michael Crane produced over the past four years. Most of the book deals with formal and/or intuitive questions concerning things he perceives to exist around him.
Michael Crane states:
“I remain constantly fascinated and curious about the forces in my surroundings that affect me, as well as about my own reactions to the environment and the ways in which I assimilate these experiences.
The results of these assimilations are presented in this exhibition.
As an artist, I wish to communicate, and I therefore chose to do so in such a way that the viewer can insert the missing information or simply imagine the possibilities.”
The exhibition is open weekdays 3 p.m.–8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 12 p.m.–5 p.m.
