JEAN-ROUALDES SOS04-11.04.1978
Communication through different signs has in recent years attracted increasing attention from both artists and researchers.
Semiotics, the study of signs, is the name of this science.
At present, a large exhibition titled “Tecken, bokstäver, skrift” (“Signs, letters, writing”) is being held at Malmö Konsthall. It is organized by Roberto Altmann, the previous exhibitor at Galerie S:t Petri.
When an artist like Jean Roualdès from Paris communicates with people, it takes the form of an SOS message. As early as 1969, Roualdès started his “signal series,” which he has since sent out periodically. With this series, he has participated in exhibitions around the world.
An SOS signal can be transmitted simultaneously in up to 165 places in different parts of the world. Thus, a global communication is created.
Already in 1973, Galerie S:t Petri in Lund transmitted SOS signals consisting of sound and light.
Now Jean Roualdès returns with an exhibition in which documents from various SOS activities will be presented.
However, the exhibition is not only about sound and light signals, but also about human perception of a signal — our ability to retain its image, and the extent to which fatigue influences that ability.
In a certain sense, it could be said that Roualdès is testing our visual and auditory attention.
The exhibition takes place from April 4 to 11, 1978, and is open on weekdays from 15:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 13:00 to 17:00.
