CHRISTIAN BOLTANSKIFASCICULES ET DIVERS DOCUMENTS13-25.09.1974
CHRISTIAN BOLTANSKI exhibits photographs at Galerie S:t Petri, Lund, from 13–25 September 1974. This is the first time he shows his work independently in Sweden. However, he has previously participated in group exhibitions at Södertälje Konsthall and Galerie S:t Petri.
At the beginning of his artistic career, Boltanski sought to recover everything that had happened to him from birth to the age of six: a reading book, a lock of hair, a baby suit (1969). Later, he tried to preserve moments of his life by conserving various objects in tin boxes — thereby being able to continuously find his own existence.
After a time, he realised that the reality of the past could not be revived simply by, for instance, photographing as an adult the places where he had played as a child. To rediscover his childhood, it was enough to observe other children in a given environment.
Christian Boltanski’s reconstruction of his own past is fictive. Only partially do the objects — such as old photographs, invitations, postcards, or letters — stem from his real surroundings. Through his photographs, he seeks to “preserve time,” albeit in a fragmented manner.
This exhibition also presents images that Boltanski has cut out from a magazine specialising in crimes and tragic events.
Christian Boltanski has had numerous exhibitions in France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Argentina, and Japan, and has made films as well as a record.
The exhibition is open on the opening day from 17:00 to 20:00, on weekdays from 15:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00.
