ENDRE TÓTSTARS FROM POLAND17.10 - 29.10.1975
Endre Tót, from Hungary, one of the leading post-conceptual artists in Eastern Europe, is exhibiting at Galerie S:t Petri, Lund, from October 17 to 29, 1975.
The exhibition is called “Stars from Poland” and consists of a large number of postcards depicting various Polish “stars” in fields such as sports, music, film, and religion.
The idea for the exhibition was developed at the international symposium for experimental art – F Art 75 – held in Gdańsk, Poland, at the beginning of September.
Jean Sellem, director of Galerie S:t Petri, participated in the symposium along with Endre Tót, and together they decided to quickly organize a manifestation in Sweden, as Tót had not previously exhibited his work there.
Since the early 1970s, Endre Tót has been working with zeros.
On postcards, posters, newspapers, xerox copies, and other materials, he draws his eternal zeros and, from the post office in Budapest, sends out his information to the whole world.
In this way, messages such as “I am glad if I can type zeros” or “I am glad if I can write with my left hand” find their way into circulation.
This method of communication has allowed him to quickly and easily connect with people all over the world.
Through his zero-activities, Endre Tót gives, in his own characteristic way, an image of the circumstances under which he lives.
As Tót expresses it: “I am glad if I can type zeros” and “Nothing ain’t nothing”.
Endre Tót has previously exhibited in Austria, Switzerland, France, England, the USA, and Canada.
He has even issued his own zero-stamps.
The exhibition is open weekdays 3–8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 12–5 p.m.
