It is Françoise Janicot from Paris who presents photographs of hidden things. In addition to photography, she also uses film as a medium and frequently illustrates books. Janicot has previously exhibited in France, Belgium, England, South Africa, and South America. The exhibition in Lund is open on weekdays from 3 to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m. — — — Category: press — Kvällsposten, 29 October 1973 — Loudly spoken, softly spoken, and silent Peter Arnoldi, exhibited at Galerie Leger in Malmö, continues to paint profile images of spatial spheres—hats floating in an empty space or combined with small objects from the toy box. Some of these images may evoke H. C. Andersen’s fairy tales transposed into the visual language of the pop era, but only on a very superficial level. Arnoldi’s paintings lack the multidimensionality of fairy tales and instead employ hard, garish colours borrowed from advertising imagery. There is a certain affinity between the painting of Märta Brännberg and Lars Hallberg. Both focus on purely painterly values: the act of painting itself is more important than the motif, which merely provides raw material. Brännberg is strongest in several well-worked portraits, while some of her other works appear somewhat academic. Hallberg’s exhibition is more consistent in quality, and his landscapes—with low horizons and high skies—create a sense of space that seems to deal with time and silence in an elusive way.At Gallery S:t Petri in Lund, Françoise Janicot presents an exhibition of deliberately (?) amateurishly copied photographs and photo collages incorporating glued clock springs and cogwheels. Most images depict clocks whose dials are crossed with adhesive tape; in one image, a woman’s face is bandaged into a state of enforced silence. The muteness is total. — — — Category: press — Sydsvenska Dagbladet, 19 October 1973, Konstronden column (Torsten Weimarck) — At Gallery S:t Petri, S:t Petri Kyrkogata 5 in Lund, open weekdays from 3 to 8 p.m. and weekends from 12 to 5 p.m., the French photographer Françoise Janicot presents a kind of “artless” photography—artless in the sense that it does not distinguish itself through traditional technical perfection. The photographs often appear clumsy and may look like amateur images. They are, however, neatly mounted on textured paper that emphasizes the image’s character as an index. The paper places the photograph in a laboratory-like environment, giving rise to the image’s almost obscene quality—its amateurishness.Nearly all of the images depict street clocks in Paris, clocks that are all out of order, marked by crossing strips of adhesive tape over the dial. In another image, a woman’s face is shown with bandages—much like the bound clocks. In some way, they are connected to one another. Both appear, in an odd manner, silenced. — — — Category: docs — Exhibition booklet, page 1, Françoise Janicot, “LE PLEIN ET LE DELIE,” Galerie S:t Petri, Lund, October 1973. — FRANCOISE JANICOT“LE PLEIN ET LE DELIE” Pendules cachées (Hidden clocks)Welcome to the openingon Friday 12 October 1973, 5–8 pmthe exhibition runs from 12 to 31 October 1973GALERIE S.T.
