The exhibition opens on Friday, September 27, from 5–8 p.m.
During the period September 27 – October 9, Bertil Falk will, for the first time, exhibit his comic collection at Galerie S:t Petri in Lund.
Bertil Falk published his own comic magazine already at the age of 11. At 12, he published a short science fiction story. For a few years (1969–71) he was the editor of the Jules Verne Magazine in Sweden. This autumn, his book “Atlantis och svenskarna” (Atlantis and the Swedes) will be published.
Bertil Falk has long been involved with comic magazines. During a visit to New York in 1970, he discovered that one could also collect original drawings from comic books. It is this collection that is shown at the Lund exhibition.
In the exhibition catalogue, Bertil Falk writes:
“The collecting of comics, original drawings, and, shortly said, everything connected with comics has gained enormous momentum in recent years. At the Star Trek Congress in New York in February 1974, more than 16,000 people gathered around science fiction and comics.
Original drawings from comics can now be bought at various venues — though rarely in art galleries. At flea markets in London, from the artists themselves, sometimes through the publishers, but above all in specialized stores that have grown up in the USA and at dedicated conventions.
American university libraries are now trying to complete their collections with comic magazines, and this often costs them large sums to repair previous omissions.”
On Saturday, September 28, at 6 p.m., Bertil Falk will give a talk about his comic collection.
The exhibition is open weekdays 3–8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 12–5 p.m.
