From 14 June to 14 August 1974, ERIK HAGENS’ “Travel Diary from Peru and the Surrounding Countries” is presented, the result of a journey undertaken in 1971 through five Latin American countries. The book, consisting of 352 photographs and drawings, is, according to Hagens, a depiction of the contradictions of South America as experienced by a foreigner. These contradictions appear on both a large and a small scale; they may seem exotic or trivial, as a struggle against nature or against powerful external economic forces — but for the people of Latin America they are realities with which they must contend every day.Over the course of nine months, Erik Hagens visited Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil.
