Britt-gard Bondesson is showcasing paintings primarily in bright red and yellow. She embroiders on the surface, filling it with figures and shapes, telling tender stories of love and joy. She does this in a very naive style, featuring many hearts and whimsical little doodles. — — — Category: press — She wants to convey a message of loveMALMÖ: — I am socially aware, I want to fight for the human, the naive qualities found in children that should also exist in this hardened adult world. This is artist Brittgard Bondesson in a nutshell. Starting September 21, she will exhibit at the Arbetets gallery on Bergsgatan in Malmö. Until October 8, the people of Malmö can enjoy her art.Brittgard Bondesson's paintings are vibrant bursts of color featuring a naive, soft, cheerful motif. She has a particular fondness for painting children—happy children— and through her art, she aims to convey a message of love. She says: — I am not naive and gullible as one might think after seeing my paintings. But I want to emphasize how important it is to keep the child within the adult alive. It has taken her many years to find the artistic form she now works with. She has moved from porcelain painting to sculpture to oil painting. The oil painting began with abstraction and eventually led to naivism.— I have reached what I call salvation by finding this way to express myself. I am religious in the sense that I believe in the power of love. — — — Category: press — GALLERY S:T PETRI S:t Petri Kyrkogata 5, open Monday–Friday 15–20, Saturday–Sunday 12–17. Brittgard Bondesson stands out from many other artists currently vying for the favor of art audiences. She is not among the young, does not talk much about “the environment,” “commitment,” misery, and despair. Instead, she expresses in a poem she wrote for her vernissage: “Care a lot / to fill your heart with the song of love.”But Brittgard Bondesson continues a few lines down: “To care for the future, freedom, and peace / so care / care a lot / care a lot.” Brittgard Bondesson reacts strongly if one were to say that she is not engaged, because she is. However, her approach is not the usual one. She paints joyful images. Children playing, singing, and dancing. Bright, vivid colors with red dominating—oils that are idyllic scenes from childhood. Images that evoke feelings of safety and the warmth of childhood in the viewer. So where does the engagement lie? Brittgard Bondesson’s poem provides part of the answer. She showcases beauty and desires beauty, wanting her surroundings to appreciate beauty as well—future, freedom, peace. Brittgard Bondesson wants to be herself. An artist from Malmö born in 1915, but with several children at home who wish for a beautiful world for their own and others’ children. This is what she wants to achieve in her own way. — — — Category: docs — Gallery S:t PetriS:t Petri Kyrkogata, opposite the Book Café.The gallery’s owner, Jean Sellem: “Our goal is to create a kind of cultural center where artists and those interested in art can meet. This is necessary if cultural life is not to stagnate. To me, Sweden seems provincial and isolated. I want to create an alternative to the institutional, traditional, commercial art world, for example by not accepting any payment for my work here. The artists exhibit entirely on a cost-price basis; the only requirement I place on them is that they show originality and artistic maturity. I therefore make only artistic demands.”What will be shown this autumn? “After Sandro Adriani, we will present two Swedish artists, Brittgard Bondesson and Bengt Christersson.” — — — Category: docs — Galerie S:t Petri continues — but with art and not politicsLUND: — We do not want a political label. What we want is to work with people who have both initiative and an international frame of reference regarding visual arts. This is how Marie Sjöberg at Galerie S:t Petri comments on the collective collaboration within the gallery, which has recently seen three members of the collective leave. Remaining are artist Jean Sellem and Marie Sjöberg.— We are not interested in whether the artists are right-wing or leftist socialists. We are solely interested in whether it concerns good art. We also hope to initiate international collaboration. We have contacts in Helsinki, Paris, and London. The leavers have claimed that they did not gain enough support for their views regarding the choice of artists. They believed that young, engaged art should be prioritized. They state, among other things, in a manifesto:— Political art was considered not serious enough. For example, we did not receive any support when we proposed an exhibition of Cuban posters. However, the gallery continues its activities. Three Swedish artists will exhibit in the fall. On Friday, Brittgård Bondesson will have her opening at the gallery.LIKE!“Like, like a lot, like a lot about filling your heart with the song of love, to like for the future and freedom and peace, so like, like a lot, like a lot.”With this verse, Brittgerd Bondesson presents her vibrant and colorful oil paintings. — I want to awaken people to positive values through my art.Brittgerd Bondesson, from Örtofta, is 57 years old. Painting has always been her great interest. Initially, it was just a hobby, including porcelain painting. Gradually, however, she attended art schools and, in recent years, held exhibitions. She also ran the Lund Gallery on Lilla Fiskargatan in Lund for several years. — — — Category: visual — — — Category: visual — — — Category: visual
