LUBOMYR MELNYKCONCERT FOR SOLO PIANOARKIV FÖR DEKORATIV KONST04.12.1977
The technique of this continuous playing has grown from ideas first developed in early pieces around 1974. These first pieces were relatively short, lasting about 15-20 minutes. ENVOY is the 3rd piece written in 1975 as full concert material, i e the concert would contain only l piece. For 2 reasons, l: The emotional and mental force of the piece, requiring a long duration, would suf-fice to make the concert a complete event in itself. 2: The strength of the player was so heavily taxed, not only by the speed of the playing, but also by the complete output of energy needed to shape the music properly. They may still be so played, although from constant playing, it has become easier to handle longer concerts. The technique has developed to accommodate the pieces and the music has formed to give the player and his technique room to speak. EN-VOY is named after the signal we all can recognize within our life-time. Eve-rywhere we have the opportunity to admit to some necessary step forward. The excerpts from the BOOK OF SHYPS constitute a series of exercises without end, from which the player can draw certain recognizable points of beginning and end. The book, begun in 1977, was conceived as a teaching book to intro-duce pianists into all the elements of continuous playing.
