1. EXHIBITION PRESS RELEASE
DS ART was founded in 1979 in Gothenburg. The driving forces behind this multi-media collective are Mikael von Hauswolff, Tjell Zakrisson and Malgorzata Kubiak. Around them there are another 12–13 people who devote themselves to music, theatre, poetry, pantomime, street theatre, etc. A space in Haga – “Last Aeroplane II”, now the DS ART Gallery – is the centre of their activities.
DS ART is based above all on friendship among people. DS ART attempts to broaden the concept of art into a many-sided creative and existential activity in which all means and forms of expression are permissible. Among them are jugglers, fire-eaters, dancers. Many use a kind of ritual painting on the face and body. Often their forms of expression give an impression of secrecy. The designation DS is also secret.
At Galerie S:t Petri in Lund, a photo exhibition by Kari Jantzen and Erik Pauser is presented. They have documented DS ART’s activities. For the exhibition at S:t Petri a special piece of music has also been created. A form of earth-art is also presented – Earthpiece One – consisting of a package containing a secret object. Soil was then placed over the package. After the exhibition the package will be buried in the hole that was dug and the soil will be replaced over it, without the package ever being opened.
The exhibition begins on 26 June and continues until 4 July 1981.
It is open weekdays 15–20, Saturdays 13–17.
