ANNA BANANA & BILL GAGLIONEIN A LUNDADA PERFORMANCEDOCUMENTATION OF BANANA ACTIVITIES18.11.1978
ANNA BANANA and BILL GAGLIONE from California will visit Galerie S:t Petri in Lund on Saturday, November 18, 1978 at 6 p.m. Galerie S:t Petri has long been in contact with Anna Banana, who is now on a European tour together with Bill Gaglione, and has invited her to come to Lund.
Anna Banana has created her own doctrine — “Bananalogy.” She hopes eventually to publish an “Encyclopedia Bananica” that will provide information about all the different banana activities she has engaged in over the years. It all began in the city of Victoria seven years ago. Anna Banana, who was born there, proclaimed herself “Victoria’s Town Fool.” She used to dress up in various costumes and invent all kinds of fun, creative activities. She performed in streets and squares, in schools and retirement homes. At the same time, she began publishing her “Banana Rag,” which contained banana-related information of various kinds. Later she moved to California and, together with Bill Gaglione, continued producing unusual printed works.
Anna Banana is a typical New Dada activist. Her performances emphasize above all playfulness. A month ago, she took part in the first intercontinental New Dada exhibition, which was shown at Galerie S:t Petri. In Dada Land, California, she has organized “Dada Olympics,” where all participants receive diplomas in Bananology, regardless of whether they finish first or last in their events.
Bananology concerns human beings who create their own mythology — for example, by trying to escape their “serious consumer” role and instead participate in so-called nonsense activities. According to Anna Banana, playfulness is essential for human development.
At Galerie S:t Petri, she will show slides and films of her various banana events and will perform sound poetry together with Bill Gaglione.
