PETER MANDRUP HANSEN04 - 12.01.1977
PETER MANDRUP HANSEN from Denmark exhibits paintings and drawings at Galerie S:t Petri, Lund, from January 4 to 12, 1977.
His works are expressions of states of mind but at the same time give rise to a physical response caused by the colours and the vibrations of the brushstrokes. The existential problem they pose is both obscure and clear.
His professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Richard Mortensen, writes in his introduction to the exhibition:
“The clarity is so evident in the last series I have seen. The monochrome ground of the painting is treated with his brush writing, which follows the classic rules of automatic writing. A few staccato, elongated forms emerge and detach themselves from the background, giving rise to a dynamic rhythm, a musicality of movement — a mystical stillness, like that of a river flowing from land to sea.”
Peter Mandrup Hansen seeks in his paintings to capture the very act of creation, the instant of becoming. He employs a visual language that demands our attention and challenges our ability to experience contemplative and meditative awareness.
On Saturday, January 8, beginning at 6 p.m., Peter Mandrup Hansen will create a painting at Galerie S:t Petri. The public will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
The exhibition in Lund marks Peter Mandrup Hansen’s first solo exhibition in Sweden.
Open weekdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
