Tribute to the Unknown Artists
Over the course of several weeks beginning on March 31, 1981, the kitchen of Galerie S:t Petri will be transformed into an office. Jean-Paul Thenot, an art researcher from Paris, will temporarily relocate his Institut International d’Artthérapie (International Institute of Art Therapy) to Lund.
Galerie S:t Petri will act as the Swedish representative for Thenot’s international project concerning artists who, for various reasons, remain unknown to the outside world. Writers, poets, artists, scientists, philosophers, and others who wish to take part in this tribute to unknown artists are welcome to leave their ideas at Galerie S:t Petri’s kitchen, open weekdays 3–8 p.m. and Saturdays 1–5 p.m., from March 31 through April 21. As contributions arrive, they will be displayed at the Department of Art History’s Section for Contemporary Art and Environment, Kyrkogatan 19, weekdays 9–12 a.m. and 1–5 p.m. In this way, the project’s development can be followed step by step.
Reflections on the tribute to the unknown artists can be visualized in different ways — for example through photographs, texts, or sound.
The project, which begins in Lund and will continue for several years, also includes the granting of a certificate of participation to each contributor. A bulletin will also be circulated to provide information on the project’s progress. Finally, Jean-Paul Thenot will compile his research in a book, in which the tributes to the unknown artists will be documented.
