Because of certain shared views on art, as well as both galleries’ non-commercial orientation, a constructive and friendly relationship has for some time been established between Daner Gallery in Copenhagen and Galerie S:t Petri in Lund.
As an expression of this friendship, and in light of the gallery’s long-standing interest in the new directions emerging in contemporary Danish art, Galerie S:t Petri now presents a retrospective exhibition of Daner Gallery’s activities since its inception.
The Danish constructivist Jane Pedersen, who for several years has followed the development of Daner Gallery, writes in a letter to Galerie S:t Petri:
“By alternating between Danish and foreign visual artists, Daner Gallery has helped initiate a dialogue and fostered mutual influence. At times, the Daner Gallery has also functioned as a kind of laboratory, where a new idea can be tested before being presented in a larger context. Or, it has simply not been used for exhibitions at all — as was said, this is not where things ‘take place’.
It has represented a negation of art as an isolated phenomenon, a constant reference to art as an integrated part of everyday life — where one begins and ends by talking about art, because everything that concerns human beings and everything that touches us is art. That is why we are all image-makers.”
The exhibition runs from March 8 to 20, 1974.
The gallery is open weekdays 3–8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays 12–5 p.m.
